Holocaust Memorial Day
What does it mean to remember? According to the dictionary, it means "to have preserved in memory and to become aware of it again". And this is exactly what Holocaust Memorial Day is all about. In this context, on 29.01.23, Year 12 pupils talked about the importance of remembering and their experiences during the Auschwitz excursion in September last year. The opening event in the assembly hall began with a poem by Jewish survivor Monika Goldwasser, who, despite her extraordinary biography, emphasized the similarities and helpfulness between people.
"I will never accept enmity between people and nations. Kindness is the highest good we have."
Monika Goldwasser
The speech was followed by some impressions from the excursion and excerpts from an interview with contemporary witness Otto Weiniger.
The event concluded with workshops on the topic of racism/anti-Semitism and a picture exhibition with photos from Auschwitz, in which the pupils from the ninth, tenth and eleventh grades were able to gather many new impressions and ideas and exchange ideas.
