We live in a time when the values of our society are the subject of much debate. Some people may wonder what these values actually are. The German Basic Law in particular provides us with information on this question and shows how important it is to uphold human dignity and fundamental rights.
To mark the 75th anniversary of the Basic Law, our Year 12 history foundation course therefore attended a musical reading on this topic on 12.09.2024 in the Meerane town hall. The "admonishing declaration of love" to the German Basic Law shed light on the creation and development of this important legal foundation of the Federal Republic of Germany, starting with the work of the Parliamentary Council just three years after the end of the Second World War.
The artistic performance combined literary, philosophical and humorous texts with expressive music that reflected the significance of the Basic Law over the decades. This allowed us to experience a completely different approach to this otherwise dusty but very important topic, which we really enjoyed and found thought-provoking.
