Great Job by IGM Students in the Finals of the 23rd GeoCompetition

Great performance by IGM students in the final of the 23rd GeoCompetition

On November 7, 2024, the final round of the third stage of the 23rd GeoCompetition of the State Office for Schools and Education (LaSuB) took place. Anna Wissgott (Year 12) and Martin Frentzel (Year 7b) represented Meerane International Grammar School. Just making it to the final was a great success for our students.

The best 12 students in level 2 from grades 7 and 12 were invited to the State Museum of Archaeology Chemnitz (smac) to take part in the competition. The participants had one school hour to demonstrate their knowledge and skills in the fields of physical geography, human geography and regional geography. The competition was followed by an exciting guided tour of the museum. The opportunity to see exhibits on geology, glaciology and urban development up close was particularly valuable for our geography lessons.

At the award ceremony in Class 7, our pupil Martin Frentzel reached the podium and took an excellent 2nd place. Anna Wissgott is one of the top 10 students in class 12.

The geography student council of the IGM congratulates the two and wishes them continued success in the classroom and in future competitions.
