Hey folks, as they would say in London!

Our 9th grade excursion to London took place from 15.9. to 20.9.2024. On Sunday afternoon, we started our bus journey on time towards the ferry port of Dunkirk. After almost 20 hours of travel, we finally arrived in London. Although we were pretty exhausted, we went straight to the first highlight: the famous Globe Theatre. There we were given an interesting guided tour and learned a lot about Shakespeare, his life and life in the society of old London. You could really imagine how people sat in the theater back then and admired his plays! We were even allowed to watch a live rehearsal.

On Tuesday, we went on a guided city tour. It was impressive to see all the famous sights in real life: Big Ben, the London Eye, Tower Bridge and so much more. You know a lot from school books and movies, but when you're standing right in front of it, it's something completely different! At lunchtime, we had time to get something to eat. Most of us tried fish and chips, probably the most popular dish in England. Fun fact: Fish and chips have been very popular in England for over 150 years.

In the afternoon, things got exciting: some of us visited the London Dungeon, where we learned about the dark and scary stories of London. The other part of our class visited the Tower of London and admired, among other things, the crown jewels and coronation robes of former queens, such as Elizabeth II, who ruled the United Kingdom for 70 years. The Tower is almost 1,000 years old and has an impressive history - it has served as a palace, a prison and even a zoo!

On Wednesday, we left London and went to Oxford. There we visited famous colleges. Oxford is a beautiful city with old, impressive buildings that tell so much history. We even visited one of the filming locations for Harry Potter! Of course, we also had time for a little stroll around the city to buy a few souvenirs.

Our last day, Thursday, began with a relaxing cruise on the Thames River. You get a completely different view of the city from the water. We were able to see all the sights once again before our wonderful trip came to an end.

In the late afternoon, we got back on the bus and headed towards the ferry. On the crossing, we even happened to meet the well-known rapper Ken Carson. After a long journey back, we arrived safely in Meerane. It was a great trip where we learned and experienced a lot. London has a lot to offer and is definitely worth a visit!
