Project week at IGM - lessons with a difference!

The first project week took place at IGM at the end of January 2024. For one week, all students were involved in various projects instead of their everyday lessons.

The fifth-graders learned how to iron, build a birdhouse and got to know our bees better during beekeeping. They also helped to make a part of the Meeran city gate.

The sixth-graders explored social locations in Meerane as part of the geography project and collected their own measurement data. They became fitter in their use of smartphones, but also learned about digital mindfulness and cybercrime.
The seventh-graders were made strong against nicotine and had project lessons on photography, robotics, magnetism and power, microscopy or built their own telescopes. They got to know their own personalities better and managed to escape from the Meeran Escape Room as a whole class.

The eighth graders are now trained first aiders (DRK) and have acquired a certificate as a polite class in the etiquette course. They have studied the dangers of various addictions, as well as the history of the city, and were also taught how to handle money by an experienced banker.

The ninth graders studied healthy eating, baked bread and conjured up a lunch for the whole class. They also created a bilingual Spanish-German paper theater and an interpretation of the Little Prince by our 9th graders internationally, and a day trip took the 9a to Dresden to visit the Saxon state parliament.

The tenth graders had a great laser project with a former pupil from our grammar school who has now joined us as a student. They were also trained in scientific work and dealing with money in the Finance Coach module. And they took part in Holocaust Remembrance Day together with the pupils in Years 11 and 12.

The eleventh graders also had an application etiquette course and then their application training speed dating on Friday.

This year, the twelfth graders themselves held a module on Holocaust Remembrance Day and gained important insights into the topic of budget accounting and the question: How do I use money wisely?

All the students visibly enjoyed this unusual week and it showed us teachers that our students are very good at flexibly engaging with different teaching formats, they have a wide range of interests and each of them has their own personal strengths.
