Educational and unforgettable experiences during the excursion to Eisenach in Thuringia

Class 6 - Eisenach and Bad Salzungen

Our Year 6 students had a whole host of educational and memorable experiences on their field trip to Eisenach in Thuringia.
On arrival in Eisenach, the students explored the Bach Museum, which is located in the heart of the town.
The museum offered an insight into the 17th century period that shaped Bach's early years. One of the highlights of our visit was the museum's collection of historical organs, on which the melodies of Bach's timeless compositions could be heard.
We spent the night at Bad Salzungen Youth Hostel, which offered us a comfortable and quiet retreat so that we had our own little "village" in which we could romp and work to our hearts' content.
On the second day, we visited the majestic Wartburg Castle (UNESCO World Heritage Site), which towers high on a hill above Eisenach. As the students explored the halls and courtyards of the castle, they were captivated by the stories of Martin Luther, Ludwig II of Bavaria and St. Elisabeth, who once inhabited the castle's rooms and had a great influence on history.
From Wartburg Castle, we then walked (and occasionally sang loudly) through the forest to the Dragon Gorge. There we wound our way through the rocks to the "Hohe Sonne", where the bus to Bad Salzungen picked us up again.
On the third day, we headed up high! On the treetop path of the Hainich National Park, we had a unique perspective on the rich biodiversity of the forest and the opportunity to observe the ecosystem from a bird's eye view.
An interactive exhibition provided valuable information about the diverse flora and fauna of the Hainich Forest and gave us a better insight into the rich history of the forest, its ecological importance and conservation efforts.
In the afternoon, we played a round of mini golf and took a leisurely stroll through the charming streets of Bad Salzungen.
The next day we visited the graduation house, went on an exciting geocaching adventure and went to the movies. We spent the last evening around the campfire, where we roasted stick bread and marshmallows and enjoyed the atmosphere of the full moon with beautiful homemade music.
Our excursion to Eisenach left the Year 6 students with fond memories and a newfound appreciation for history, music and the beauty of nature.
