From 16.09.-20.09.2024 we, the class 10a of the Int. Gymnasium Meerane, were in Barcelona, Spain, as part of the exchange program: Erasmus+ student mobility.
We took off from Nuremberg airport on Monday and all landed safely in Barcelona. Despite the bumpy journey with two missing suitcases, the rest of the exchange week was a special experience. Some of the students were accommodated in host families, but only those who had hosted a guest student from Spain last winter. The other part of the class found accommodation in a hotel near our Spanish exchange school: Agora Sant Cugat International School. We were able to see various sights of Barcelona, both traditional and modern, in the form of a city tour that lasted two days. Even though Tuesday and Wednesday were very exhausting due to all the walking, it was well worth it. Among other things, we were able to see the Sagrada Familia with its beautiful façade, Casa Battlo with its abstract and colorful interior design and Park Guel with its beautiful gardens and mosaics. In addition to the sights, we got much closer to the Spanish language. The host families were a great help. We were given a very warm and loving welcome and were able to gain a little insight into life in Spain. Being surrounded by the Spanish language all the time also improved our pronunciation. Of course, there were sometimes small difficulties, but at the end of the day we always found a way to communicate. At our exchange school, we also worked on a mixed nationality project on the subject of Catalan modernism: Arte y Arquitectura. This challenged us once again to get to grips with the national culture. Which was very interesting. All in all, the week was a memorable experience. We think that everyone should have had this experience once in their life.
