Exemplary and respectful

Award as the first polite school in Saxony for the International Grammar School Meerane

Meerane Grammar School is the first school in Saxony to receive the "Polite School" award from the Knigge Society. This is in recognition of the school's long tradition of promoting a respectful and polite tone among all those involved in school.
At IGM, it has always been a matter of course to greet each other in the corridor, both for pupils and teachers and for visitors. Anyone entering the school is therefore often amazed to see students saying "Hello" in a friendly manner, who usually also offer to help them find the person they are looking for.
This everyday culture of friendly interaction is complemented by courses designed to help pupils become familiar with the norms and rules that are common in our society.
In Year 8, students learn the rules of etiquette for everyday life and respectful manners while visiting a restaurant together with etiquette trainer Ina Beyer-Graichen.
Every employee is familiar with the job interview situation and the fear of not doing the "right thing": Is it right to introduce yourself to those present with a handshake? How should employers be addressed? What should you wear? Ms. Beyer-Graichen discusses all of these topics with the students as part of a workshop "Applicant training - perfect manners" that is specially tailored to job application situations.

For many years now, Meerane Grammar School has been offering a special subject that was developed at the request of the pupils: Fit for Life. This subject is entirely dedicated to the acquisition of everyday life skills and offers pupils a wide range of opportunities to prepare for an independent life.
In addition to healthy eating, sewing and embroidery, financial literacy and sports days, the curriculum also includes etiquette courses and job interview training.
Experts from the field are brought in for all of this content: The students would like to learn how to submit a tax return, which is why we have invited the tax office. And they want to know how to get rich without miscalculating on the stock market - that's why we invited finance coaches. And Ina Beyer-Graichen is our expert on the right way to deal with each other.

The award as the "First Polite School in Saxony" is therefore above all a confirmation of the innovative work of the IGM, which shows that a modernized school prepares pupils better for life.
