The program included first of all a lecture where the students learned about the physics of LASER with many demonstrations and small fun experiments performed by the scientific staff working there.
After the theoretical basics were clear, it was then off to practice and thus to the individual laboratories, where one could experience the LASER in its many applications. It was very impressive how quickly you can cut a workpiece from a piece of sheet metal with LASER and how little this had to be reworked. We were given a bottle opener, which we could then label individually, which is also an application of the LASER. We experienced how LASER can be used to print, make models, and conduct test series on buildup welding. The test series are then evaluated and scientifically processed by the students.
Finally, we were able to learn how RNA can be modified with LASER. A student showed us this with her current research assignment. This gave us an insight into how LASER is also finding its way into bionics.
As always, it was an exciting event and the visit to the laser lab gave the students a lot of important knowledge.
