Dear friends, dear supporters, and dear families,
The days are rapidly getting shorter, and an icy wind brought us the first snowflakes with the joyful news: the Christmas season is beginning!
Many hard-working helpers are already busy in homes and schools, following an old tradition of lighting hundreds of lights, as they do every year.
Wide-eyed amazement from all our new international students from Egypt, China, Mexico, and Vietnam, who have never experienced Christmas in the foothills of the Ore Mountains before. Yes, we have grown!
After celebrating our school's magnificent 150th anniversary together in June, we didn't enjoy a well-deserved vacation, but instead had a busy holiday full of energy: we had to clear out and clean our "new" school building, unload furniture for numerous classrooms, assemble it, and carry it into the classrooms. All teachers and staff who did not actually go on vacation were here on site and accomplished a small miracle in a very short time: All rooms in our junior high school and high school were ready on the first day of school and welcomed our 430 students from all over the world.
We went on a trip together before the fall break and came back with lots of memories, new experiences, and a deeper understanding of each other.
Now a large part of teaching and learning is behind us, accompanied by new projects such as the completed fitness room in the basement, the amphitheater in the outdoor area, and two drinking water fountains (currently being installed).
A very warm thank you to everyone who has contributed to providing our students with the best possible education and upbringing, as well as making everyday school life even more enjoyable and lovable.
That includes you, dear parents, as well as our teachers and staff, because only together can we give your children and our students the necessary "tools" in the form of applicable knowledge, practical understanding, respect, and decency.
Let us continue to work together in confidence.
Once again this year, we would like to cordially invite you to hear, feel, and experience the spirit of Christmas with us at our festive Christmas concert on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. or 7:00 p.m.
Before and after the concert, treat yourself to homemade baked goods, roasted delicacies, and mulled wine at our small snack market.
(Please register by email (igm@saxony-international-school.de) or phone (03764 2331) to reserve your place).
We wish you and your loved ones a peaceful Advent and Christmas season, as well as health and personal well-being in the new year 2026.
Sincerely,
Kerstin Sommer
on behalf of all colleagues at the International Gymnasium Meerane.
