At the International Gymnasium Meerane, the school grounds currently offer many opportunities for outdoor exercise and lessons, gardening, living in nature and enjoying edible plants. Several corners of the large green school grounds are still unused and are to be developed in a student-friendly, but sustainable nature-oriented gardening manner.
The main goal is to create a coherent design for the entire site so that it can serve as a living and recreational space for students, teachers, animals and plants, and provide a variety of sensory experiences. To this end, the students in the "Project Planning" working group collect ideas for the further design of the outdoor facilities and build scale models in preparation for implementation. By involving the students in the brainstorming, project implementation and maintenance of the grounds, identification with and appreciation of their own school as well as teamwork and social interaction are promoted. Knowledge of nature and manual skills are taught.
Currently, the school is working on a reorientation of the teaching concept towards self-oriented learning of the students. In the further development of the outdoor area, a larger offer of self-selected learning places is to be created. But the grounds can be used not only for learning, but also for recreation during breaks, for sports activities and games, in physical education classes, as an outdoor dining room, for the AGs beach volleyball, green school, cooking and baking, beekeeping, as well as for school festivals and musical performances, there is enough space and opportunities.
