Absolutely recommendswert: The 8a at "Tschick" in the Chemnitz Theater
On 23.10.2023 we went to see the play "Tschick" at the Spinnbau in Chemnitz. The play is based on the popular novel by Wolfgang Herrndorf and tells the story of the teenager Maik, his life and his current problems.
"It doesn't matter what you do as long as you're happy." (Maik's mother) His alcoholic mother and his violent father play a major role in Maik's life, but so does his great love Tatjana, because he wasn't invited to her birthday party. So Maik embarks on an adventure with his new classmate Tschick, which ends in a court case because they crash a stolen Lada.
We found the play funny, informative in places and well acted. But there were also a few inappropriate jokes on the subject of National Socialism and a few very violent, racist passages. What we found very impressive: there were only three actors (Vera-Cosima Gutmann, Clemens Kersten and Richard Koppermann) and yet they played all the roles so professionally and lovingly. The young people were also portrayed well by the actors, even though they were older themselves.
We found the text funny and age-appropriate, but there were a few problematic jokes. And the plot seemed questionable to us in some places, such as Maik's dramatic, violent family situation, the kiss between the two friends and the junkyard girl who suddenly appeared and whose life story was not explained.
The stage design suited the play well. Although it remained the same throughout the play, it was refined with individual props, including a pig, a sofa and balloons that were misappropriated and turned into children, and it rained on stage!
After the end of the play, we were able to have a follow-up discussion with the actors. The actors were very nice and open and we were able to ask any questions we wanted. For example, we learned that they usually learn their lines during rehearsals, the questionable jokes were explained to us and we found out that the three of them are also friends behind the scenes. They also told us what they thought of the play and that they were shocked at how the audience reacted to some scenes in today's performance. But we also learned that they didn't find it difficult to play the insults and abuse.
In conclusion, we would like to say that we can highly recommend this play as it has a good message. We think it is an exciting play for all age groups, however, we should qualify: due to the drama and the strange jokes, the play is certainly more suitable for contemporaries who like black humor.
