The term "Holocaust" refers to the murder of millions of Jews during the period of National Socialism. A time that Alexander Gauland (AfD) called a "bird's nest" at the 2018 national congress of the AfD's upstart organization Junge Alternative. The politician wanted to say what he said: six million murdered Jews do not count. This language changes our consciousness, especially in times of crisis and pandemic, when unspeakable comparisons are made between today and the Nazi era. That's why it's even more important to pay attention to days like Holocaust Remembrance Day. We as a school do this by wanting to deal with it, not only what happened in the past, but above all by talking about what lessons and courses of action can be derived from it for the present and the future. To this end, our 12th grade reflected on their field trip to Auschwitz and gave an impressive presentation in the auditorium to the ninth, tenth and eleventh grades. Following this, the 11th graders dealt with the issue of how Germans deal with the Holocaust today in a workshop. No one came to a conclusion like Mr. Gauland. Rather, we agree with Erich Kästner, who said: "The past must talk, and we must listen. Before that, we and it will not find peace."
