It's wonderful to be able to harvest and snack on fruit from the garden in summer and fall! Of course, there is also some work involved: Planting, watering, fertilizing, pruning, harvesting - in other words, taking care of the little tree all year round. For many years now, the 5th graders have traditionally planted a fruit tree in the "green classroom" of our school, which they follow until they graduate from high school. Thus, our fruit meadow has already grown considerably: sweet cherry, several apple varieties, pears and mirabelle plums are already thriving. This year, the students of class 5a chose a nashi pear (an Asian apple pear). Everyone pitched in and loaded with spades, hoes, shovels, wheelbarrows, watering cans and planting soil, they got to work. Only a week later, the tree was already blooming beautifully and was visited by many insects. Now we hope for a first harvest of the delicious fruits after the summer vacations!
