Meerane International High School

News from
the school day

Last weeks of school

Dear parents of our students,

We are in the final spurt of our school year and, as usual, everyone is putting their last bit of energy into this time.
This year is particularly significant, as our beautiful town of Meerane is 850 years old and we have been involved in organizing an extensive programme of festivities.
It is simply indescribable what we were able to experience on Friday, when our school choir sang together with the Meerane choirs and the world star Paul Potts under the direction of our Helko Kühne.
The opening song "It's my life" made everyone sit up and take notice, as a concentrated energy came across to the audience, rousing and encouraging them to sing along.

Then the joint pieces with Paul Potts: pure goosebump feeling, it was simply wonderful. Thank you, thank you, thank you to our singers and the great director of this project, thank you very much! The International Gymnasium was the talk of the town and made even our management very proud. Then it continued on Saturday with the children's festival, our contributions shouldered by Anne Eismann and Juliane Klepzig along with 11th graders. Ms. Klepzig put a lot of effort, time and great ideas into preparing the theater group for their performance, which unfortunately had to be cancelled shortly before the start due to the weather. Our heartfelt thanks also to these actors for all their time and commitment!

Yesterday was also a very nice day of "togetherness" for all the music clubs, dance associations and clubs in our town, we haven't had so much life on the streets and under the resurrected town gate for a long time, simply beautiful. We were able to have so many good conversations with parents, pupils and former pupils, which did us a lot of good. There are still many highlights waiting for many guests this week, it is advisable to mingle with them, it's worth it! The program is on display everywhere.
On Saturday there will be another big concert on the Teichplatz show stage at 20:00 with Pepe Lienhard and band (orchestra leader of Udo Jürgens) and pop star Laith Al-Deen, and on Sunday between 11:00 and 13:30 the film documentary on the 850th anniversary celebrations will be shown.

Now back to our school:
We warmly welcome Mr. Matthias Buchholz to our ranks, who is observing and working in Maths and PE this week, as he will be joining our team in these two subjects from August. A warm welcome!
An equally warm welcome back to our dear colleague Katja Kaiser.

The final examinations for the Abitur 2024 will take place this week. This brings us closer to another highlight of the school year: the ceremonial presentation of the Abitur certificates on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at 2:30 p.m. in the school auditorium. All graduates are requested to be in the schoolyard at 1:30 pm for the joint photos. We are very much looking forward to this day, where all efforts and diligence will be rewarded!
A big thank you to all subject teachers who have prepared our Abitur students in the best possible way and to Ms Lorenz for the very good organization and smooth running of the Abitur examinations.

Tomorrow we start very sporty in the Richard Hofmann Stadium for our athletics sports festival:
All athletes meet there at 07:50, already dressed in sportswear. As a precaution, a rain jacket should be brought along.
The sports festival starts at 08:00 with a welcome and warm-up, the competitions start at 08:30 according to the schedule.
Lunch at the school has been canceled for this day, in the stadium there is the possibility to buy delicious food from our 11s. We wish all athletes the best of success!

This week is also ending on an exciting note: our teachers and pupils from the "Green School" are traveling to Dresden on Friday in the hope of being chosen as one of the three most beautiful school grounds in Saxony - we are already among the "10 most beautiful". The jury from the Saxon Ministry of Culture visited us on 15.05.2024 and was impressed by this "Garden of Eden".
Let's all keep our fingers crossed for another award, we certainly deserve it! Our shared learning and living environment has once again become much more beautiful and liveable. Our heartfelt thanks to all the hard-working and dedicated "gardeners" of the "Green School" as well as Ms. Oehler, Mr. Lora, Mr. Delic', Mr. Sonntag, the "Voigt gardener" and our janitors Mr. Müller and Mr. Tirschmann!

All our activities would not have been possible to this extent without you, dear parents, and we are very grateful for your reliable support. stay healthy and feel free to contact us if you have any questions, concerns or praise.

All that remains is for me to wish everyone a good "rest of the school year" and then "happy vacations" with lots of sunshine and the best possible rest.

Best wishes from Kerstin Sommer.
