Internship week: Pupils of IGM Meerane experience instructive career choice days

The internship week before the Easter vacations at IGM held many interesting and educational experiences for the students of grades 5 to 10 in Meerane. While classes 7 to 9 worked in internship companies, classes 5 and 6 visited several companies in the city and got to know them.

On the first day, the classes explored the city of Meerane and familiarized themselves with the stores and companies that have settled here in the city center and in the industrial park.

Day two took them to the city technology of Meerane. There they had the opportunity to see the equipment and machines and to get to know the men and women who keep our town in good shape and clean. The insect hotels they built themselves on site will find their place in our school grounds.

Dampfkesselbau Meerane was the destination on day three. Here, the students gained insights into production and the apprenticeships offered by this company.

Class 10 also had an exciting week, with theoretical and practical workshops on the topic of choosing a career.
For example, they were able to conduct research on study options and study locations under the guidance of Ms. Knobloch from the Employment Agency.

On the campus on Reichenhainer Straße, there was a tour of the modern laboratories, a campus tour and an information event on study opportunities at the TU Chemnitz.
At the West Saxon University of Applied Sciences, the students were able to gain insights into the numerous language training courses. Taster lessons in Chinese, Arabic, French, Business English and also sign language were on the program. They were also able to put their language skills to the test when they met foreign students.

A highlight was certainly the plant tour at Volkswagen Sachsen in Mosel. Who ever has the opportunity to see the production of modern e-cars up close! An overview of possible apprenticeship professions or a job after graduation here in the home environment concluded the day.

The internship week and the workshops offer students valuable insights into various occupations and fields of study and help them to get to know their own interests and skills better. In this way, the students can better prepare for their future careers and have the chance to make important contacts. Overall, the internship week at IGM in Meerane was a great success and a great opportunity for the students to actively shape their future.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the companies and universities that opened their doors to us and took the time to answer our questions.
