Feeling like a politician for once, ...

... that's what we, the students of classes 9a and 9b, were able to experience for ourselves on 08.02.23 in the Saxon Parliament. After an entertaining bus ride and a trip to the old town of Dresden, we were greeted by the visitors' service in a friendly manner

He first explained to us the history and architecture as well as the tasks and working methods of the Saxon state parliament. Afterwards, we went into the plenary hall and were allowed to take a seat where the 120 members of parliament usually sit and discuss. Thrilled by the atmosphere and acoustics, we divided into two factions. One group prepared a "pro-speech" on the topic "Elections from 16?!" and the other a "contra-speech". Two students from each faction presented their 2-minute speech at the lectern and now had to convince the others of their point of view. This resulted in an exchange of blows between the factions. By a final vote, however, this bill was rejected by a majority and it remains: elections from 18.
In the second part of our visit, we got to talk to an SPD member of parliament and a CDU member of parliament. They told us something about themselves, their work and the Saxon CDU and SPD respectively. Afterwards, we were allowed to ask both of them our prepared questions from the GRW lessons. Both of them answered all the questions confidently and encouraged us to participate more politically so that democracy can continue to have a future. After about 2.5 hours, this interesting and educational visit to the Saxon Parliament was over. We drove home a bit exhausted, but with new knowledge and maybe we will see one or the other again sometime at the speaker's desk in the Saxon Parliament.
