Teaching democratic values

"Remembering cannot undo, but it can reduce the probability of repetition"
- Friedrich Schorlemmer

This is the motto of the project we launched with our partner school in the Netherlands at the beginning of the school year. Our team, which consists of 20 students from the 9th and 10th grade and 5 teachers, is fighting to put racist, anti-Semitic and discriminatory thoughts to rest. For this, both we and the Dutch students have already done extensive research. In the course of this project we were able to organize a digital meeting with Mrs. M. Vidláková, a contemporary witness from the Czech Republic, on Tuesday, 08.03.2022. This gave us the opportunity, which is becoming increasingly rare in our time, to speak with a person who experienced and survived the Holocaust at first hand. Her account was very detailed and gave us a precise insight into Jewish life and the cruelties in a concentration camp at that time.

Our goal is to bring democratic values closer to as many people as possible and to educate them about what happened back then. Unfortunately, there are still far too many people who feel that the Nazi regime was not as cruel as it ultimately was and who strictly deny the fact that more than 60 million innocent victims lost their lives during that time.
The plan is to travel to Holland for a week as part of our collaboration so that we can come into direct contact with the students and perhaps also visit the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam to gain further impressions.
