Christmas carol

From the sky into the deepest crevices
A mild star shines down;
Scents rise from the fir forest
And breathe through the winter airs,
And the night becomes candlelit.

My heart was so joyfully shocked,
This is the dear Christmas season!
I hear distant church bells
Enticing me sweetly homeward

In fairy-tale glory.

A pious spell holds me again,
Adoring, marveling I must stand;
It sinks upon my eyelids
A golden child's dream descends,
I feel it, a miracle has happened.

                     Theodor Storm (1817-1888)

Dear parents, dear students
dear friends and partners,

The beautiful Advent and Christmas season is just around the corner and once again it is time to look back together and reflect on what we have experienced.

From a global perspective, three topics repeatedly came to the fore: artificial intelligence with all its opportunities and risks, the ongoing climate change on our planet and areas that are unfortunately affected by war and hardship.

These issues have also reached our school, we have dealt with them, looked for solutions and found new ways together:

Students and teachers underwent further training in artificial intelligence (e.g. chat GPT) in order to be able to use it sensibly. At the same time, we have adapted the assessment standards accordingly in order to better recognize actual student performance.

Representatives from our school took part in the city of Meerane's climate adaptation workshops, with pupils working on the topic via film, flyers, posters and presentations and presenting them to our city. A project on sustainable water use is planned for 2024 at IGM, which is currently awaiting funding.

Young people from disadvantaged areas were warmly welcomed to our school. We set up an "international class" especially for this purpose, in order to really live integration by teaching our language. In the meantime, a large number of these pupils have been integrated into the German classes and the common goal of "Abitur" has been tackled. As on a large scale - so on a small scale: each of us can make our contribution to overcoming global and regional challenges, we are ready and willing to take them on.

A very big thank you goes to you, dear parents, as we have always been able to rely on your support. Our common goal is to provide your children with the best possible theoretical and practical education so that they can enter life as flexible, tolerant and open-minded individuals. We achieve this together time and time again through trusting and respectful cooperation.

We would like to get you in the mood for the coming Christmas season with our Christmas concert again this year.
We cordially invite you to join us on Thursday, 14.12.2023 at 17:00 or 19:00.
Please register by phone (03764 2331) or email (igm@saxony-international-school.de).

and the best of health in the new
year.
