Baccalaureate graduation 2022

"No one knows what's inside him until he tries to get it out."

Ernest Hemingway

1,98! What does a number say, especially since it is only an average figure, made up of 19 individual performances? Correct, the number itself only says that there is an A in front of the decimal point, which is actually considered very positive in our society.
Nevertheless, 1.98 does not only mean that our graduates of this year's high school graduation class achieved the best average in the 10-year history of our high school's graduation ceremony, but it also means that we have to look at how such a result is achieved.
In 2014, a colorful bunch of cute, vocal and curious students* came to our school, joyfully welcomed by their class teacher, Mr. Frömmer, who had a plan to lead this class to the Abitur. With his very own methods, he not only took them to the limits of their ability to cope with the almost impossible in his subjects of mathematics and geography, and thus to success, but at the same time he gave them the confidence in themselves to take responsibility for themselves and their achievements from the very beginning. As a result, they learned early on to organize themselves, to help each other, to stand up for each other.
Self-responsibility, fighting spirit, resilience, variety of methods, learning cards, self-organization and much more. - these are the magic words for a result, which makes us proud as teachers of the International Gymnasium Meerane. For eight years, we as supervisors were able to experience how young personalities developed, who not only gained great knowledge, but above all learned how to acquire it independently, how to deal with defeats in order to then be even better, in short, how to survive in a highly developed society of the 21st century. This 2022 high school graduation result is sustainable. Unfortunately, the long-time class teacher, Mr. Frömmer, cannot live to see it because he passed away much too early. However, he lives on through these great results and will thus always accompany our graduates as they independently discover the world outside the school walls for themselves and will one day have an even greater say in it.
Martin Frömmer would be particularly proud, as would we as a whole teaching team, that within the very good results there are three 1.0 graduates who deserve our very highest respect because they have literally worked this result continuously over years, purposefully and diligently. This was rewarded by a special honor, namely a reception by the Minister of Education of Saxony, Mr. Piwarz, who expressed his congratulations to all three graduates and their parents in Dresden, in the Frauenkirche.
1,98! Really just a number? No - a result of life-oriented teaching, confidence in the abilities of young people and the daily work of our teachers on how to prepare young people for the challenges of our time. It is again a good, a very good class, from which we have said goodbye with a dignified graduation ceremony with the certainty that all will go their way and are ready to face life. All our good wishes accompany them and who knows, maybe one or the other will come back as a colleague and continue our course!
