We explore nature - let's write a diary!

Walking through nature with open eyes, looking closely, questioning things and doing their own research and experiments - that's what Lennart, Nils and Emil from Class 7a set themselves as their goal. In a competition organized by the environmental and nature conservation association BUND Saxony, students from all over the Free State were called upon to keep a nature diary. The topic could be chosen and worked on freely according to interest - alone, in research teams or as a class project. For almost a year, the three boys stayed on the ball and documented, photographed, sketched and experimented. The result is a commented video in which the development of a newborn cat is compared with that of a ginkgo tree. In addition, the experiment tested whether and under what conditions a seedling develops from a cherry pit. To make the finished video available to the jury, Emil, Nils and Lennart generated a QR code, which they sent on its way attractively designed in a small book.
And the effort was worth it: Alongside two other class projects that observed an oak tree through the seasons or created a colorful flowering meadow for insects on their school grounds, our nature diary won an award! For the award ceremony, we traveled to Dresden, where we were treated to two plays by Miss Brehm on wild bees and wild cats in a very interesting event, were able to make our own seed balls for flowering meadows, and were also provided with delicious snacks. After the video was presented to the audience, Nils, Lennart and Emil received their prizes to applause.
And one thing is for sure: This research team will implement a project again for the next competition.
